Hey guys, need your help/advice. I have the above 12gau shotgun and went for deer this week for the first time. Now last month I went up north for some grouse to break her in and fired a box of target load threw her. Had no problem hitting a few birds during that weekend (using Federal ammo). However my buddy who is fully licensed purchased the ammo (as my Firearms license is still in the process) and purchased Winchester slugs 2 3/4 1oz, Supreme I believe, the problem is the ammo I was using costed me my first 2 does (40yd shoots) sitting position as I found out later it shoots 2ft high and to the left at 50 yards using a make shift bullseye out of cardboard and this was validated by 2 different hunters I was up there with and they were shooting from the kneeling position. I was using improved mod. choke, is this possibly certain ammos react differently. I was told Rottweiler is the ammo I should be using for this shotgun, could it be anything else???....any info./advice will be appreciated

Different ammo will make a difference. But you really need a slug barrel if you want to be successful by any means. You should also check where your gun is hitting before you shoot at a living thing....just let that be a lesson for the future. By the way...the Benelli SBEII is a REALLY nice shotgun.

Hi Wis, thanks for the tip....from what I hear the shotgun has no real complaints and shoulders & fires like a dream, to bad I didn't make time and had it sighted in before opener, oh well live & learn I guess
ps. had to do quite abit off OT this year along with donations to the sperm & blood bank lol, slug barrel is disguistingly high up here in Canada as the price is going for $700+ depending were and can't justify the price for an additional 40-50yds approx.

With a rifled slug barrel with a scope and sabots 150-200 yard shoots are fairly easy. $700 for a barrel is pretty ridiculous though. Maybe you could just get your shotgun drilled and tapped for a scope and just use the barrel that you have now. You could probably shoot out to about 75 yards.

my first suggest was going to be what was already said. its not good parctice to just go out and assume your shotgun will shoot where you aim. and second, try rifled slugs. sabot slugs in a smooth bore barrel will never hit the same area, probably not even the same target. i would venture a guess that you will probably add about 50-70 yards of range just by changing ammo. and again, make sure you know where its hitting first. please. nothing worse than severly wounding an animal and dying where you cant find it.
