Ah, the new generation. I guess a rifle is a rifle, and I'll be the first to admit that the "style" of a rifle is not anywhere near as important as the "style" of the hunter using it. I'm just too old to get into the ARs for hunting - just been using bolts for too long. I will give a couple practical criticisms of the ARs: most of the ones I've seen seem to be heavy, and those short barrels really decrease the velocity of the bullets. Just an fyi not all ar 308 platforms are heavy.The RRa lar8 predator weighs 8.6pnds and is a superb hunting rifle.I believe they also make an upper in 7mm08 now.

That weight wouldn't cut it hunting here in the Montana Rockies. My Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle weighs just a little over seven pounds with a 3-9 scope, but that sounds like it could be a great deer rifle in the east... or some place that's flat.
