I know this may be crazy to some here but there have been 2 rifles that I have sought for many years and just last week finally got one of them a 1948 Sav model 99 in 250-3000. Well, the second one is a pre 64 Winchester model 88 in 308 win cal. Right now there are 2 very nice ones on-line at a popular auction site and yup started bidding on one of them a 1955, the first year of production. These guns have both been escalating in value for the last 5-6 years even doubling the collective prices. For those of us in our 50's and those a bit older can appreciate the pure huntablility, probably not a word, but you know what I mean that these rifles possess. I'm betting that the value continues to climb on both the sav 99 and win 88 and figure I can gain 50% on the investments over the next 5-10 years. A little speculation, but I've watched the prices for several years now and that's the direction things are going right now. Whether or not I get the 88 this time, I'll still try to fill my second dream gun soon. I can only compare this to collecting old cars just a whole lot cheaper to do. You just have to want/know the older stuff to appreciate the old time quality.
