took this guy on opening morning of regular(firearms) season in upstate new york. i was going to pass on him, but i remember my father in law telling me "if you wouldnt pass him up on the last day, theres no reason to pass him up on opening day".

ps. hanging weight(minus head and hooves) was 110. taken with a rem 700 .223 at 150M(ranged) from the stand. hes a nice 2.5 year buck.

i know he's no monster, but there's meat in the freezer and another experience saved. i had the butcher cut him for a euro mount, which my father in law offered to do for me. he's done a few for himself, and wants to do this one for me. i liked him becasue he is almost perfectly symmetrical. dont get me wrong, i like the look of non-typicals with drop tines and whatnot, but theres something special about a nice typical buck. next season ill be hunting for a trophy though. hopefully in the 140's or bigger(i know, wishfull thinking). and thanks for the replies guys.

i wasnt trying to justify it. i was merely saying he wasnt a monster. then went on to a little rambling, thats all.

oh, and by the way. what you dont see in the picture is the truck my brother in law drove over to meet me in. he purposely parked about 50 yards away so id have to drag my deer to it. he was jealous because he shot his buck on the same morning out of the same stand, except his ran off into the woods and he had to drag it up into the field. mine piled up and died in the same spot it was hit.

yeah, all the guys i hunt with are good people. they all pretty much have the same mentallity and mindset. you wont last long in our group if youre and immoral hunter. it works out well for us because almost all the land we hunt is private, except for one corner near my father in laws land and a few other small patches we work. its easier to get rid of bad hunters if its your property.
