I agree with HM...but you can't go wrong with a .308 or a 30-06. A 30-06 will pack a bit more punch, but the animal wont know the difference.

but, the .308 is inherently more accurate due to less recoil(less flinching).

Well....I'm not sure I "completely" agree with that. You shouldn't flinch no matter what caliber you shoot.
