24" arrow in 20" bow?

Since I'm going to be shooting at only 20 yards (from a ground blind) off bait with my Ten Point Elite would going to a 24" arrow give me more flight stability (as I've heard)?
After hunting with Spitfire mechanicals for seven years and putting up with weak or no blood trails because of (my theory so far) internal (inside the deer) arrow deflection I'm on a mission to find out why and starting this year will be trying 5 different brands of heads and three arrow brands but they are all 20"?

While I'm new to the cross bow hunting, my guess is the arrow length is determined by the stroke length and the desired bolt speed. Whether or not a longer bolt would work or give valuable mass/energy, someone out there should have the answer.
Most xbows or set for a certain length bolt from manuf. specs. for there speed and power. If you change bolt length the xbow may either be over powered or underpowered for the bolt. Also if something bad was to happen and manuf. found out you were shooting the wrong bolt you would be SOL. I have messed around with 3 diff. bolt lengths and have found that the 20" is the best for my xbow and the BHs I use. IMO I would not go more than 2" either way of spec. bolt length
