Sighting in a slug gun Hi Folks: I'm Murffie, an elderly deer hunter from Minnesota (poor Vikings! Gophers! Timberwoofies!). Been hunting deer for some thirty years mostly with a Browning 30-06 semi. However, this year I am relegated to hunting closer in to Minneapolis. This is shotgun only territory. Picked up a Mossberg 500 12 Ga with rifled barrel. Am using Remington sabots. Had to replace the sights. Put on some Tru-Glow sights last night. Now I need to sight it in without going broke. Those sabots are $$$. Can anyone help me? Tried this a.m. at an indoor range and cant seem to get the sight to adjust very well. Murf.:bye: |
Hi Friend, Please check out this post, it should help you. http://www.deerhuntersclub.com/forum....html#post4280 AJHunter |
Thanks. Your post was very helpful. I posted before I was allowed entry into the forums. Appreciate. |
Is a scope an option? I have the same gun and have used it Ohio for many years. I use a 1x3 power and leave it on the lowest setting. Winshester BRI 3' sabotts work the best. (I tried them all). Get it on paper at 25yrds. A little high is okay. Then 50 then 100yrds. Leave it dead on at 100yrds and you'll be deadly anywhere from 50 yrds to 100yrds. You'll shoot over them at 25 yrds. |
Thanks. Right now scope is too late. Season is 11/3/07. I'm working on that or a williams peep sight for next season. |
i shoot the moss 500 rifled barrel too good gun, little bit heavy.Good luck this season:thumbup: |
Tried the earlier advice on 25 and 50 yards over the weekend. Then went to a range and gunsmith and had a red dot put on with a rail. Not too expensive. Three shots and zeroed. Gunsmith says that the open sights I had purchased were not for a Mossberg even though the packaging said they were. Wrong height on the ramp. Good hunting to all and thanks. |
good. sounds like your all set. good huntin |
