LugardGary I did some serious testing for an article "Crossbows vs. Compounds -- Myths & Facts" -- published in Bow & Arrow Hunting Magazine. I came to the conclusions that in terms of penetration and trajectories out to 50 yards, a 175# crossbow had almost the same performance as a high quality compound bow set at 70#. I am not a crossbow user but they have been allowed in archery hunting seasons in Ohio for a couple of years - and this has only helped gain increased archery seasons, with crossbow users having no greater success than compound users. I'm just happy to see some youngsters taking up the sport.

gfdeputy2 HM I am with ya I also will do what ever it takes to stay in the outdoors
The way my shoulder has been acting up again it maybe sooner then later I am doing the crossover. NH states once you are eligible for a crossbow permit you can never go back to a reg. bow & at this point NY does not allow Crossbows no matter what. I think that is wrong. I here a lot of people were against Compounds when they came out too I would guess at least 99% of the bowhunters out there shoot compounds nowadays
My shoulder just needs to hold out till NY & NH come around to Xbows

Hunting Man
Camp

This will be the first time that there is an even split between cross bows and compound bows in camp. 3 & 3. Tells you the older guys are finding ways to stay hunting as the body breaks down. I hated cross bows when they came out and Ohio was one of the first states to make them legal in archery season. Now, I find myself appreciative of the oppertunity to continue to hunt during archery season. 5 years ago I wouldn't be saying this today. Old dogs and new tricks I guess, or never say never. The ability to continue to enjoy old friends and the woods is worth millions by whatever method it takes. 41 seasons chasing deer in PA, good memories every one of them!
