Hunting Man I understand how you feel regarding the muzzleloader. I started with the rifle, moved to archery and flintlocks. Anyway congrats on the deer. A high shot sometimes won't leave a very good shot as the blood is all inside. Good news is you got it.

Tricky Thanks guys. I don't know how to explain it, but it feels so much more exciting to get a deer with a muzzle loader, then any of the deer I have taken with my rifle or shotgun. I am just waiting for a buck now. That would make my year.

ronn congrats. blood isn't the only thing to look for. hair is one to look for at the impacted site as well. being a high hit most of the blood would be bled out inside. I'm sure if you got down close and looked you'd find a little blood but seeing the dead deer is way better. congrats again.

No Blood ????

I just got my first deer with a muzzle loader this morning. It was 35 yards away in my range finder. I got a high lung shot and it ran about 20 yards from where I shot it. I recovered the deer easily, but there was no blood where I shot it, or a trail, and there was barely any blood on the entrance or exit wound. I was using a 54 cal, maxi hunter. I am just stumped.
