New from North Carolina

Checking in from eastern North Carolina. Began hunting as a teenage with my father, mostly squirrels and rabbits. Got into deer hunting in my early 20's. My first dedicated deer rifle was a Ruger M77 chambered in .270. Was fortunate enough to harvest a nice 8 pointer with it in 1993. Went a few years without hunting much due to work or distance. Now a good friend is allowing me to hunt his farm, and my wife usually accompanies me to spot, take photos, and just enjoy our time together in God's great outdoors. With our renewed interest in hunting, I'm looking into a new rifle...probably a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WinMag. Looking forward to participating and learning from everyone here!

Hello and welcome from Ohio. I happen to own a few Weatherby rifles however they are Mark V's. I have read where the vanguard model had some safety recalls so I would do your homework on the Vanguard. Good luck hunting!

Thanks for the welcome and the "heads up!" I am aware of two safety recalls involving the Vanguard line. One is in regard to safeties on models built between 1970-1993, the other deals with loose barrel nuts on some stainless models. I've got the serial numbers for both recalls and will check whatever I buy against those.
