New to muzzleloading
I built a traditions muzzleloader out of a kit last year and i didn't have a chance to use it that season due to work. I've sighted it in, and shot it at 50 yards and i want to make a serious effort to take it out this season and get a deer with it, but i'm not familiar with how much force black powder produces. I figured 100 grains of powder with a .490 dia 50 caliber round ball would work but i'm worried it may not be enough to go clean through a deer and i was wondering if anyone would have a answer for me I've searched countless hours and no luck, it's a traditions Kentucky rifle with the 1:66 rifling, i try to be as humane as i can when it comes to hunting and i would greatly appreciate the answers.

So your 1:66 twist is perfect for round ball use. You didn't say which ignition system your rifle is, but I will asume it is percussion. I like 90 grains of Goex 3f for 50 cal loose powder charges in 50cal rifles. I would also offer that I have found that .010 thick pre-lubed patches work well for most round ball rifle barrels. If you find your load seems to load too loose and accuracy suffers then you have two options, try a thicker patch material, .015-.017 may work or try some 495 round balls with the .010 patch. This load will harvest deer sized animals as long as the shooter puts it in the vital area.

Thank you very much i found this very useful i appreciate your time to help me out. I'll defiantly be looking more into thinner patches and a bigger ball diameter.
