I am trying to figure out what type of 4 wheeler I want. I realize many of you have one and I would like your input. I want this 4 wheeler for hunting, riding around on in the woods and fields, NOT racing. I am currently looking for a used one but I'm having trouble deciding what I need. What size engine would I need? I'm a big guy, 6'3" and about 275 lbs. Probably going to use this to haul things, pull things, etc... 500cc? I don't have a clue???

Also, I have heard MANY good things about Polaris and Honda. Any other brands you would recommend?

I basically want something super heavy duty... not sissy 4 wheeler. Please understand I know little about 4 wheelers (though I've driven them many times) and I know very little about small engines.

I have a 2006 Bombardier Outlander 650.which is now Can-Am. It is a workhorse I've used it hard for pulling, plowing snow and riding nothing stops it the 650 is way more than I needed so I would suggest a 400 can-am. I'm sure you'd be plenty happy with that. I'm not knocking any of the others they all perform well. Good luck to you.

The Honda Rubicon I had was a great machine. Many of the guys in Michigan where I hunt use Honda from 450 cc and up. Polaris 500 Sportsman series are nice machines, we've used one in PA for over 12 years. If I were to get another one it would be a sidexside Polaris or Yamaha as they are a bit narrower than the Honda's so going through the woods is easier. Got spoiled with running a machine that has a roof, windshield, throws heat out, and a dump bed!!!! 800 cc's would be where I'd look as it will do everything a 500cc engine will only better.

Another question to throw at you is this: I know about mileage on cars/trucks/etc.. but what about hours on an ATV? How many is considered alot? For example, 100,000 miles on a car typically means the car has had a good life so far and probably has more to offer. What if an ATV has 100 hours on it?

I have a Honda Rancher 350 plenty of power plows snow like crazy. I have been skidding trees, hauling cord wood, raking drive way & food plots
I have had many a four wheelers I have owned Yamaha, kawasaki, Suzuki & now the Honda I have to say the Honda so far is my Fav. You just cant kill it but all the top manufactures make great machines
My wife & I have been 2 up trail riding with no problems climbing stopping

Tator, 100 hrs on a machine driven by me good, driven by a young kid, might not be so good. Look at the machine close for signs of abuse/neglect. 100 hrs normally I wouldn't consider that as excessive. The honda's that my buddy has, 4000 miles on them and still going........

make sure you get one that's water cooled. plowing and mowing will over heat an air cooled atv very fast

HB my Rancher is a 2001 has air cooled havent had an issue with it yet & have over 400 feet of driveway but it does have an Aux fan so that may help
