This will be my very 1st hunting experience, never hunt before and i'm excited..I'm going with one of my friend from work who is a veteran bow hunter so he can show me how, i think we will just do a stalking hunt becs he said he has no patience standing still in one spot which is good for me becs i'm thesame way..i will be using a PSE bow wiith 55lbs draw and my broadheads are 100gr muzzy blades..any suggestions or tip would be appreciated..
Hello vikz, greetings from Vermont. It sounds like you're on track with being prepared for your 1st hunt.
Consider yourself lucky to have a veteran offer to help you, your inexperience in the woods has a huge affect on
not only your hunt but his as well, so be sure to be understanding and grateful to him as he guides you along.
Have you been practicing with your bow? Practice is very important, you should shoot as often as you can.
If you're going to do a Stalk hunt you're going to be hunting with everything in the Deers favor. Sight, Sound and Scent.
A stalking hunter should move slowly, no fast movements whatsoever, use cover scents and try to keep the wind in your face.
Deer hear better than anything in the forest so be as quiet as possible.
One last tip "IF" you see deer stop moving totally and try to wait out the deer, he may just walk right into a good shooting zone for you,
If you try to move closer to him you'll end up just pushing him further away from you. Good luck and Happy safe hunting this season.
welcome to the club and welcome to the insanely fun/crazy world of bowhunting.the best advice i can give you is to practice with your bow.you should wear the cloths you will be hunting in,everything gloves face mask etc.at least a few times what works in the yard in a tshirt and shorts is another thing in the field.also try to wait for a broadside or quartering away from you shot to get the best lethal hit.If you go thru this section its loaded with pointers.but feel free to ask.by the way where ya from etc...
Welcome to the site. You can find a whole bunch of information here to help in your new found hobby. Patience is the key to hunting. Knowing when to take a proper shot not just A shot. The animal deserves the highest respect from all hunters therefor it is our job as responsible hunters to make the best shot happen. Nature will give you a whole bunch of lessons as you progress through the seasons. The more time you spend in the woods/reading the better hunter you will be. It looks like you have a buddy to hunt with thats a good thing. As Joel said practice with your bow, know you can make the proper shot when it happens. Good luck this year and continue to ask questions, we do our best to cover things. HM
learn what ever you can from your friend...watch what he does, and when ,,,but teach your self to sit on a deer stand,,it will pay off
Well said delbert.. I think it would be very difficult to stalk with a bow. Im a very hyper active dude myself, but when I got into hunting Ive have always had alot of patience sitting in a stand.. Its enjoyable and the time goes by faster than you think.. Especially if your seeing deer..
you can try a ground blind to hide your movements
or hunt like ronn @50' snuggled in the tree tops lets you squiggle around a bit. One thing nice about ground blinds and sitting in a nice chair=
Thanks for all the tip and suggestions becs i do need all the tips i can get, I'm really excited to go this saturday and yes i will let my friend lead the way and just follow him, I already told him he has the 1st shot i f we see a deer i'm just there for the experience and if my turn comes it will be even better..I'm from a small town called Wenatchee Wa we just move hear 3yrs ago yesterday, I grew up in manila and moved to Los Angeles, CA so i'm a "city boy" so to speak no idea about hunting i just know i want to try it..I'll take a pics of my setup and post it here, I've been practicing everyday since i got my bow and gotta say this thing is very addicting, dont get me wrong i like guns too but i think bow hunting is the way to go hunting..
