But it was a decent season this year, getting this last doe during the extended season we sometimes have at the end of the regular season. Doe was shot at ~ 90-95 yards with a Remington Model 81 in .300 Savage. Took out both lungs with no problems. She ran, but didn't run very far, dropping just fifteen feet short of my property line. <That would have been ugly, trying to get property owner permission to go chase it down had it made it over the fence.> Rifle is almost 10 years older than I am and was one of my grandfather's favorites.

1 comment rdrader2002 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 13:01:57 -0500 2010 Doe

by: rdrader2002

Description: Doe taken right at dark with a Remington Model 740 Woodsmaster in .244/6mmRemington. Used a Remington Core-Lokt 100 grain bullet, putting the round into her ribcage and taking out both lungs. The rifle was a favorite of my grandfather's and he bought it the year that I was born, and that was a day or two ago.

1 comment rdrader2002 Sat, 04 Dec 2010 20:10:24 -0500 Nite Pic - 8pt

by: rdrader2002

Description: Picture taken out back window of the house. Low light conditions caused the flash to go off, but he was too far away to catch anything but the lights in his eyes. Guessing that he was no more than 20 to 25 feet from the back of the house to where he stood. rdrader2002 Mon, 08 Mar 2010 23:56:21 -0500 Last Day Doe

by: rdrader2002

Description: Dropped this doe on the last day of the season here in Texas. Used the pictured .244/6mm Remington that was handed down from my grandfather. Am having way too much fun with it to consider retiring. Added the Simmons 3x9x40 scope mid-way through the season and now have quite the lethal combination. Doe dropped right where she stood from about 90-95 yards. rdrader2002 Sun, 03 Jan 2010 21:49:34 -0500 8 Point Buck

by: rdrader2002

Description: 8 Point Buck walked out of the treeline just as I was about to pack it up for the night. "Dark" here is about 6 p.m. and this guy walked out at about three minutes to six. I'm sure glad that he didn't wait another 30 seconds or so . . .

2 comments rdrader2002 Thu, 26 Nov 2009 01:48:23 -0500 First Deer in 3 Years

by: rdrader2002

Description: Here's a picture of the first deer I've been able to put in the freezer in three years. This was his first day hunting and he used a Savage Model 11 .243. It was difficult to tell which of us was more nervous, him trying to shoot the deer or me wishing I could do more to help.

2 comments rdrader2002 Mon, 29 Oct 2007 22:20:30 -0400 Nine Point

by: rdrader2002

Description: Here's a nice photo of the buck that I got just three weeks prior to spending a year in Iraq.
