Talking Youth Hunt

This weekend is the youth hunt weekend in Tennessee (still ongoing). The weather has been absolutely perfect with frosty, still mornings both days. Two of the coolest mornings of the fall so far, in fact. There was a big deer contest held for the residents of our county with a free lunch offered and prizes to those checking in the biggest deer.

The 1st prize winner was a 15 yr old girl, on her very first deer hunt. While hunting with her father, they spotted a deer moving towards them through the woods. At about 30 yards, she took her shot and dropped the deer right there, using a 30/30.

They didn't realize just how big it was until they walked up on it afterwards and her first harvest turned out to be a 14 pnt (incl two drop tines) that field dressed at 167.5 pounds. The next two biggest deer (both bucks) were 148 and 147 pounds respectively. I'd figure with the beautiful weather again this morning, there were some more great deer taken.

Awesome.. She probably made a lot of veteran hunters jealous with that buck.

On our lease the youth hunters didnt tag anything. Deer movement was very little in our bottom fields..

you gotta love it when the kids have a moment like that, something they will remember the rest of their lives.

I bet she's hooked on hunting now.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the outcome of the vote.
