Default gettin lil man into huntin

ok so im trying to get my boy (6 almoast 7 yearold) into hunting, and i wana do it right. iv been bringing him on scouting trips for the last few years. last fall i brought him squril hunting and bagan teaching him hunter safty. hears a pic.

he has been doing verry well at learning the hunter safty rules, and enjoys every sec. we are in the woods. at this piont he has done well enuff for me to want to teach him how to shoot. do you guys think its too early for that? if not how do i even begin to teach marksmenship to a 6 year old?

he clearly understands what a firearm is and what should be done to use them safly. he can state all the hunter safty rules that aply to him (i didnt bother teaching him not to mix guns with boozz , and drugs. cause hes 6 and is obveasly not drinking or doing drugs.) and on top of knowing the rules he understands why each rule is there and what can happen if the rules get broken.

If you think he is ready then go for it. Its not like your going to stick him out there by himself. If your with him you can make sure he is safe with the gun and this is also a good way for him to learn firearm safety. My dad started me hunting when i was 5 and killed my first deer when i was 6. Its all about if you think he is ready.

at age 6 I'd say lucky shot. I would think any kid that little is going to flinch and or even close their eyes when pulling the trigger in antisapation of the recoil on any gun in a sutable size for deer hunting. not bashing anyone I just would not recomend any kid useing that size at that age. you can control the safety and their form but you have no control on their shot placement and at that age I wouldnt think there are many kids that could control their shot either. so as an adult you are taking a chance of wonding or faitily wounding an animal you cant recover or worse for the bragging rights of you kid killing an animal.

im not teaching him to hunt for bragging rights. and he is not hunting this year cause he is not a good enuff shot yet. his hunter safty knowlage is there, but his shot is not. trust me he wont be shooting at deer till he can shoot 3 seperat clay pidgens in 3 shots at 40 yards with my .270.

not mening you (Hunt) I had a post a page back I though I was kinda in the same boat as you with mine being 10. I was more refering to the post before mine on the realy small kids. I dissagree with him saying he though way ok for someone that young.
