Thumbs up buttermilk fried venison nuggets

venison
buttermilk
chili power
red pepper flakes
black pepper
lawry's seasoning salt
garlic powder
hotsauce
flour
plenty of peanut oil


--any cut of the deer will do as long as it was cleaned properly, cut into nugget sized chunks and place in large bowl pour enough buttermilk in the bowl to cover the meat, rest of the seasonings add to prefrence ( usually add a little more than you would if it was just the meat) stir it up and let it sit for at least 10 mins, get your oil preheated, get a good amount of flour in another bowl for dredging your nuggets, once your oil is ready 4-5 nuggets at a time cooking or more if you have a larger pan (just so they dont crowd and mess up the crust) don touch them till they start to float then roll them over slowly to get and even cook, light brown and they are as done as you want them to be, any darker and you'll end up with some tough peices, enjoy! :)

Now that sounds pretty darn tasty! Of course anything with chile powder, red pepper flakes and hot sauce in it sounds pretty good to me...

I agree Turner, this recipe sounds very tasty, Welcome to the club Huntanglergirl!
I noticed you used lawry's seasoning in your recipe, have you ever tried or heard of Iron Skillet seasonings?
It's a really good line of seasonings specially made for fish & wildlife...
I love their Woodsman Venison steak and roast rub and their Venison Sausage seasoning mix...
so far, those are the only two flavors I'ved tried but both are yummy yummy yummy...

thanks for the welcome :) and this recipe works great on fish as well, no i haven't heard of the iron skillet seasonings where do you find them?

I became aware of the Iron skillet seasonings at a trade show here in Vermont.
I'm not sure where they are available, I have no affiliation with them but
I would think their webiste would have all that info available.

Have been frying backstraps like this for years and it is awesome.Another good rub for venison is Everglades seasoning.

this sounds tasty

This sounds like a great recipe to try, I never would have thought to do deer nuggets.

Has anyone tried dipping sauces with the nuggets? Like ketchup or something similar.

I've tried Vidalia Onion Vinaigrette (from Costco's) as a dipping sauce, it turned out to be a pretty good combination on chicken, turkey, beef & Venison but I didn't care for it with pork.....
