Farm Pond Busting

I read an article about a couple of duck hunters getting permission and going out on some farm ponds to bust the birds.
The way they did it was an ambush style of hunting where they would sneek up on a pond with birds and when the birds took flight they popped a few. They also had a dog with them to fetch the birds.
Has anyone ever done this and how successful where you?
Thanks

Cowboy can also be a state of mind

they're not shooting them while they are in the water, they jump them into the air then shoot.

popular tactic if you cant afford a boat ,decoys etc...

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison.
Genesis 27:3 "The thinking deer hunter should mature through three phases during his hunting life. First phase, "I need to kill a deer." Second phase, I want to harvest a nice deer. And last phase, we must manage this resource so our children and their children can experience the grand tradition of good deer hunting." - Jim Slinsky
