been a while

i was setting a tip up on the ice this morning and a crow was cawing up the hill. then it happened. its been about a year since the last time and it kinda fired me up. a gobble. not just once but every time that crow went off. sounded like it could have been a jake but its was still a gobble. come on may 3. when is pa spring season? does anyone know off the top of their heads? may 2 i'll be headed home from graduation in va. that makes the 3rd a monday, this is good. maybe less folks in the woods opening day.

Out here they'll start strutting in the fields in a couple more weeks. Ronn, can you tell the difference between a jake and a big tom gobble....to me a jakes gobble cuts out shorter and overall sound is pretty junky. But a gobble is a gobble.

yea thats about right with the difference in gobbles. sometimes its a normal gobble but has a break in pitch in it, like a boy who's voice is changing, but i've been fooled before both ways. with so little snow, thats not a complaint, they will be struting soon. the boys are ready to breed just about any time. the hens say when. ain't it always the way. thats why you will see toms struting in august or even later.

May 1st is the Start of Turkey Season In New York. The Young hunters get the weekend before that. I Dedicate the entire Month of April as Turkey Hunting Prep Month. I'll get the diaphram calls back out and turkey talk to work and back and pick up the latest Primos Turkey Hunting DVD. I'll watch differnt parts of that thoughout the Month. My daughter was born two Aprils ago and she was watching Turkey Hunting DVDs before she was 24 hours old. Had to start her out the right way :)
