Rifle hunt for turkey
Can a .22 be used to hunt turkey? would I be better off with a bow? I will not use a shot gun for personal reasons.
Thanks in advance
If legal in your state, I see no reason not to, just be sure of the background for bullet travel. A good head shot should be no problem with a scoped 22 at reasonable distances. I watch hunters using 3" mag 12 ga shotguns and doing major damage to the birds and wonder why? I've only killed two turkeys and both were shot with 22 cal rifles. Serious turkey hunters may have a totally different view on this?? This is just my 2 cents worth.
Here it's illegal to use a rifle to turkey hunt with. Shotgun, bow, or crossbow only. And shotgun shells can only be #4,5,or 6 shot size.
If it is legal where your at, it's still going to be a tough shot, you would almost have to catch a timing right for a head shot. I thing your wasting your time to body shoot one with a rifle. I believe your going to fatally wound it but will most likely not recover the bird. It will run or fly off, and don't bleed enough to track. Personally I think a shot gun is best and would do less damage with greater success of retrieving the bird.
If it's legal in your state, no problem, Use a hollow point and hit him high to watch them die, if you hit them low watch them go!!
