upland game birds
i have hunted upland game birds for many years and have never hunted wit a dog in the morning and night hunt by gravel roads cause they eat the gravel to digest there food and in the afternoon if it is suny out they are in open fileds in trees or on haybails sunning them selves i have always had succes folllowing these steps hope it helps u out and good luck and it it is a frosty morning they are usually in trees

the only reason I hunt woodcock and pheasant is for the dog work. I have 2 GSH pointers. The old boy points like a big dawg. the pup, he is 2 years old now, is just getting controllable. The dog work is the best and the birds are tasty.

i saw a huge woodcock while turkey hunting this year.right were he was supposed to be on the edge of the swampy stuff digging for worms.when he took off straight up 2' in front of me i almost fell over on my butt jumping back:surprised:

thats the best thing about woodcock they hold tight under the dog. pheasant can ruin a pointing dog cause they run like rabbits.

ronn, I had 2 GSP dogs one was great and smart the other high strung and a pain in the rear. Now have 2 labs but don't hunt them. I do a bit of grouse hunting in PA, mostly hunting not a lot of getting.

They sure are a lot different than the labs. My 9 year old sleeps a lot now. quite a contrast to the tigger 2 year old.
