Which barrel is better?

Im building a new deer shotgun for this upcoming season. I got a remington 870 12 gauge. Im switching to a cantilever type barrel.

I found that Remington makes the cantilever barrel and also Mossberg makes one to fit the 870 also.

Which one would you guys go with? The Mossberg barrel is cheaper. Thanks

Mossberg makes quality shotgun products, and their barrel is cheaper. But, as with any firearms, if your willing to spend the extra money, go with the remington barrel. Its just better, and sometimes safer, to only buy after-market products from the same company that made the gun.

Doesn't Hastings make barrels also for the 870??

I know they used to but I'm not sure they still do. Carlson's is making 870 barrels now, none are rifled slug barrels though. I'm thinking about picking up one of their 26" vent rib barrels.

I love Hastings barrels, I've had a 24" cantilever scope mount on my 870 for 18 years. Hastings is out of business, but I'm absolutely sure it had nothing to do with making bad products, there are a million different scenarios about why, but I was buying a lot of Hastings barrels at an online auction and selling them online, I bought and sold a ton of 'em. All gone now, sold the very last one(same barrel as mine)that I was saving for a spare, let a good friend talk me out of it last deer season. And SGreve, I've been round and round with you about this slug deal, only then you said you were building a 20 gauge? Anyway, stick with the Remington, there are reasons why that Moss. barrel is that much cheaper.
