DE deer hunt
 

Had a great hunt, shotgun, in Delaware last thurs,fri and sat. got two, one button buck( they are pretty good sized this time if year) and a doe at about 130 lbs. Now the down side, when you gut a doe this time of year it is pretty gruesome. I never thought of the young ones she was carring. Might make me think about such late season hunting if i want to do it again or not.

I can see what your saying about a gruesome gut job. Im surprised the season would still be open if does were already starting to develop their young ones already.

After inception how quick does the fetus start to develop? I've never shot a late season doe and after your experience I dont think I will if they got a young one growing already.

Don't think I would be able to do that......

However, I did kill a doe this year on Nov 15th (opening day of rifle) and she still had a LOT of milk in her. Is this usual?

I would think that the remaining milk would be her simply nursing a late or "spoiled" fawn. We have all seen the kid that is 2 years old still chewing on the bottle. Just a thought!

yeah that's kinda what I thought daddus... this doe must of had a late-born fawn that she was still nursing. spoiled brat!!!

Not to sound gross and sorry to offend anyone, but daddus, how large was the fawn in that doe you shot? Just wondering how big the fawn "fetus" was at that stage in the pregnancy. It amazes me how fast fawns grow into full grown deer.

this is a real head trip for me but it just goes to show how lack of
thought can cross your eyes!
It was lawful and "in season" but thoughts linger.

Well now you know... i probably would've made the same mistake... but look at it like this... it's not like that was the last living whitetail doe.

I also killed a doe that had a twin set and it affected me the same way. it was like: was it right hunting late season? My thoughts are it just happens and as hunters we make our rules with-in the limits of the law and accept our own actions. I still hunt late season.

Late Season
 

I never hunted late season until this year. I never thought about that possibility but now I have mixed emotions about hunting the late season again.:confused:
