What is a good grouse gun?
 

Hi everyone,

New to the site. I have found there is a good grouse population on some property I own in NY state. I tried hunting them with my Mossberg 500 but find it's hard to carry and swing that beast all day (before I go any further I've had this gun for almost 35 years and dearly love it). Looking for a good inexpensive gun to use for grouse and rabbits two or three times a season. Any suggestions?

410 is awesome and doesn't muck up the bird, also nice and light to carry around with no kick

need a hunting buddy?i use my dads winchester 20 for grouse i found my 500 to heavy to lug all day as well.Where in NY?

If you can find an old 28 guage this would make for a great grouse gun. Finding ammo may be a challenge though. The last time I searched for ammo I could find only #9 and #6 shot.
Hard to go wrong with a 20 guage as well. Easy to find ammo. I started hunting with an Ithica 20.

something like an old Savage 20-16ga in a double barrel and with 25-26" barrels should do the trick.

How about a Mossberg 500 in 20 Ga?

A short barrel over/under in 20 GA.
