Hello and a quick question

Hello this is my first post to this site, and i must say what a great site. It is very helpful.
One of my main hunting spots is just inside city limits and therefore i am forced to use a slug during gun season. I have a Mossberg 500 pump action all purpose shotgun which does not have a rifled barrell. So my question is if it is alright to use slugs in my barrell.

ooh what a coincidence..sounds like my gun exactly. if you dont have a rifled barrel it will be like throwing a football without spiraling it. wobbly. so i guess it lessons the distance and accuracy

Thanks for the info guys. but it wont hurt the barrel? and what about choke tubes? and what about rifled slugs will that help?

yea...the slug barrels are oversized to allow the rifling action the name rifled slugs is misleading since its use after they stopped making round pellets..remember how they stood side by side in the civil war? thats cuz if you shot with an "unrifled" bullet you would have no chance of hitting nething diretly in front of you, it would spin all around the place like crazy. the rifled bullets allow the normal barrels to shoot MORE accuratly than with unrifled slugs but you are still gonna be wobbly as all get out ..ps, dont try it on double barreled guns

No don't shoot slugs out of a choke tube barrel. A choke tubes for pellets (shot) for turkey and birds and such. That would be a very dangerous situation.
