2012 deer season

2012 deer season rifle opener is coming up and I'm starting to get excited already. Just wondering if everyone has theyre tree stands hung and they're rifle sighted in. If you have any tips on helping me put a deer on the ground this year then please share them!

Just set the last eight stands today. Got the new bow tuned up, lots of deer sign, I am ready. Two more weeks and we can get started here in Tennessee.

No tree stands used around here, it's all stalk and hunt, or beach combing. Trying to fit in hunting between work travel and rain!

I hunt wooded ridges above farmland.I hunt on the ground.I find ravines with deer trails in them and set up on the lip.I'm shooting down into the ravine which is a good backstop. Its like a treestand without the climbing and safety issues.

Rifles are all sighted in. No stands for me. I like to set up on a ridge looking out for the deer moving up the Mountain. Sit tight and wait for all the other guys to move around for lunch and move the deer.

We are sitting on the ground up against deadfalls

We hunt State Forest where you are not suppose to have built up any stands. There are some around but we don't use them. I also find it is nice on the really cold years to be able to get up off the ground and move around a little to get the blood moving. Walking even 1/2 mile does wonders to warm you after sitting for a couple of hours in temps below 10 degrees.

Most of the big bucks around zone 9 in Arkansas are nocturnal, will probably need to set up at 4am on a ridge, and wait patiently, with a large mug of coffee. But, an 8 to 10 point buck will be worth it.

Both .243's are sighted in with one and a half inch groups at 100 yds.The flintlock not so much.My flinching is giving 5 inch groups at 50 yds.A flash in the pan showed me how much I was flinching.I need to work on this.
