Default .270 or 30-06

I've been using a 30-06, but have never used a .270. I saw in the replies to Hick Chick's post that some of you say the .270 is more accurate. Most of the hunting I do is in open spaces. Should I try one out & see if it works better for me?

I always root for the 06 but the 270 has a more flatter shot trajectory. It could also be personal preference if you were to test both rifles out. That's seems like a hot topic between the 270 and 06. I sense a POLL.

i dont shoot either rifle but respect both. The discussion over which round/rifle is better is a big part of deer hunting. The topic will never be settled ,I hope. The topic is a staple round the deer camp table just like mashed taters....or do you like baked...or boiled taters.Years ago i heard an old man say "BEWARE THE MAN WHO OWNS BUT ONE RIFLE.HE'S LIBEL TO KNOW HOW TO USE IT".Just thought i'd throw that out there.Whatever rifle/round you prefer make sure you burn ammo till it and you are one and deadly accurate.
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison.
Genesis 27:3 "The thinking deer hunter should mature through three phases during his hunting life. First phase, "I need to kill a deer." Second phase, I want to harvest a nice deer. And last phase, we must manage this resource so our children and their children can experience the grand tradition of good deer hunting." - Jim Slinsky

I say that if the '06 is working for you then why would you want to switch? Just stay with what you got.

There's no need to switch Calibers.
the .270 vs. the .30-06 of course there's difference's but just because the .270 is the best choice for one hunter
doesn't mean it's the best choice for every hunter and vise versa with the .30-06.
Some hunters are just more confident with the .30-06, It's just personal preference really, that's pretty much what
it's going to boil down to when comparing the 2 calibers.
I have a .270 and A .30-06 I PREFER MY .270 ONLY beause I'm more accurate with the .270
The 30-06 has more hitting power and more Bullet choices But you have to be confident with the weapon you're hunting with.
I could use my .30-06 to hunt with but i'm more confident with my .270

270 is a necked down 30 06, this should tell you alot about the way they shoot. The whole issue is personal preference. If you have a 06 that's doing the job, good. I personally like the 270 because of the flatter trajectory, but that doesn't mean that it is the best rifle.
