The M77 is going nowhere here to stay

Ruger for the last few years became a customer based company
what that means is a lot of the new guns have been customer driven (what we wanted to see ruger make) a lot of people wanted to see ruger make a less expensive rifle so Ruger did it. I think ruger made a very nice inexpensive rifle here that still has ruger quality & again made 100% in the USA I love my M77 & would not trade it for anything but for my daughter I can not see spending the cash on an M77 (she will get mine anyway when I am gone ) this is a great choice for her. IMHO if you try one out it will probably surprise you this is NO piece of junk

Scorpion8, the M77 Ruger is available with wood or synthetic.
Here's a link to the M77 Hawkeye Synthetic
Here's the M77 Hawkeye Synthetic Alaskan
Here's the M77 Hawkeye Synthetic Tactical

I personally Own a Ruger M77 .270 Ultralight Carbine I wouldnt trade it for the world BUT I wouldn't hesitate buying the new Ruger American which is 100% American made. it's nothing spectacular, it isnt the best Rifle ever made but it's American made and that alone makes it a solid investment to the folks that buy them.

The Remington 770 is junk! Savage, Weatherby, T/C, Marlin and Mossberg all make budget bolt rifles for a reason; there is a market for them.

This is obviously an attempt to gain some of the market from savage, marlin, thompson venture, etc. In order for this to work it better shoot and i havent seen to many rugers that shoot great. They got their work cut out for them time will tell.It better shoot 1moa at a 100yds.

I said I'd look at them, as I do ALL the guns in my LGS. Often.

Not trying to be argumentative at all, but why would you assume I need those links? I own 3 Ruger M77's and had 4 at one time. I'm pretty well versed in their wood stocks, synthetic stocks and after-market stocks. Lets please stick to a discussion of the new gun, which you can just chalk me up to "I don't like it". To each his own.

There was a market for the Yugo too. And history has judged that one too, and not very well.

Scorpion8, I'm not trying to be agumentative, You were comparing it with the M77 and by posting the links
I was simply pointing out to you that the M77's are available with those same cheap synthetic type stocks but it's all good.

BB, you handled that well I would not have been so nice. Scorpian8, I didn't see anything wrong with BB's post. Your response was not warranted nor appreciated. If you're thin skinned then this is not the place to be. BB didn't attack your knowledge or anything else regarding the 77's. It's not good attacking the moderators without merit! HM

I'd buy one if they chambered it in 300 WM. The other chamberings just dont satisfy the "Tim the Toolman" desire I have for "more power". Maybe someday there will be a pill I can take for that.

I didn't attack the moderator. And maybe this isn't the right place for me. In the forum that I moderate, we allow someone to say "I don't like that" without jumping all over them telling them why they should. I have M77's with synthetic stocks, and the stock was never actually named as an issue. The cheesey action a' la Remington 770 is more of an issue to me, as Rugers were born on Mauser-based claw extractors. I prefer synthetic stocks in the environment that I live in. I was questioning, if you'll allow the phrase, why someone here would try to teach me how to suck eggs by showing me other Rugers with synthetic stocks. Yea, so what? To me, without the M77 action, it's not a Ruger. I understand the "build to price-point" model, but I don't have to like it, which is all I ever said. Funny that other folks who said "I don't like it" weren't called out.

Go figure.

I will leave it at that. Nice gun. Go buy as many as you want. I don't like it. And I never attacked anyone. I asked why they thought an experienced gun owner and rifleshooter needed to see links of the guns under discussion. At my forum we allow dissent.

so ruger can't come out with something NEW? it has to be the same old thing otherwise it won't be a Ruger where would we be if Ford never went away from the model A? I just think maybe you should try it or even handle it before calling it a cheapie. As I stated before this is testing as good or better then the M77 & has been in the works for a couple years this is not an overnight design & build not looking for an arguement just stating facts
