| | what time do y'all call it quits
So I went our this morning, got in the stand about 605. Saw a small buck at about 730it or so. About 830 a dog crossed my field so I figured I was not seeing anything else and headed to the house(had to be home for an appointment ).
After about 900AM I feel like I wont see much til after lunch but I hate to leave before 1030. What time to y'all like to hang around til on a morning hunt when you aren't staying all day?

I'll stay till at least 11... sometimes, if I bring food, I'll stay longer.

Usually my neck/back send me out sooner than I wish. During the rut all day is the best answer. I usually hang till about 10-10:30 then back out at 3pm. I've have my scent wicks knocked down many times mid day while in camp for lunch. At least I know I've got a buck in the area.

10 is about the earliest I ever come out now. Its usually 11 - 12 as well for me.

| | I try to hang in there all day long...
I try to get into position before legal shooting time 0630hrs and stay until 1500/1600hrs. It does get a little boring if the Deer aren't moving around. Now my Son and I have our sandwiches, twinkies, hohos, and rice crispy bars to keep us going all day. Only the best health food for Deer hunting is allowed.

I have killed a lot of big bucks mid day. Deer don't always move at the same time of day, sometimes morning is best, sometimes evening is best and some times mid day is best. Like HM said when the rut is on all day is best. So what time I hunt depends on the deer.
Example: I kept seeing deer in the feilds at 1 and 2:00 when I was going home so the next morning I waited until 10 to go in and planned to hunt until 2:00. At 11:30 a group of does came in and I took a big doe.
Other hunts this year I killed a spike at 11:00 and a seven point at 5:00. Admittedly the shot I had at big boy was at first shooting light so I am not saying it's not good to get in early. My point is, don't be so set in the start stop times of your hunt that you don't look at the other opportunities.
About the dogs: don't let them bother you if they just pass through, the deer may spook at the moment but they will settle back down once they are gone.

i found a handy website last year, i'll see if i can find it again where based on statistics it tells your your probability of seeing a deer. based on using that chart for my mid week hunting last season i do have to say its pretty accurate. basically says there's a dead spot from 10-2 with the exception of noon sometimes having a peak moment. of the 4 deer i saw last season one was early morning, one was about 2:30 and 2 were right around the end of the day.

5:00 to 9:30-10:00 and back at 2:00-3:00 to dark
except during the rut, then its an all day ordeal.
