what caliber
 

well ive made up my mind to get get a sako 75, but how ever i cant make up my mind on what caliber. i thaught about the 270 weatherby mag but after close observation i just dont want to spend that kind of money on ammo. ive shot 270 wsm and like there accruracy but ive not ever killed a deer with 1, are they a good deer round? and do they have the speed and the overall power to put a hurtin on a deer? need a little more advice please.

Yep.....good round. Will do very well on deer!

Performance diff between a 270 and 270WSM
 

I have to wonder what the diff is between the two if you are shooting factory Hornady 270 superformance ammo compared to the 270WSM.

I checked the Company websites 270Win vs 270WSM
 

Hornady lists the 270 Superformance with the 130gr at 3200fps
Winchester list the 270 at 2900fps, the 270WSM at 3200fps both w/130gr.

So it looks like you could buy a 270 shoot cheap 270 ammo or if needed use the Superformance ammo and get 270WSM performance.

well its sounds kinda dum but i have sworn off the 270 win, for some personal reasons we wont go into. lets just say it didnt do the job. how bout the 7mm stw? is that a good round? do they have massive recoil?

Well, I reckon that's fine if your rifle shoots that one .270 Win load well. Of course, with the WSM there are 10 other 130gr loads that shoot that bullet at least that fast (Winchester load I saw said 3270 FPS/130gr) plus the ability to handload to that speed as well.

I own several .270 Wins and it's a very fine cartridge. It is not the equal of the .270 WSM (which I also own) however. :wink:

I like 7mm rem mag. I have a M70 chambered in it. Tons of power and the kick is nice and smooth. LOVE IT!!!

yep it is a good round and will do fine. Also consider the 300 WM.

I hate to say the 270 will do its job.you just have to feed it what it likes to eat with the right ammo for the job,and most important you have to do your part also.most every rifle right out of the box will out shoot the shooter.most will never know what there rifle will do,cuz they cant.Dont take this wrong,not saying you cant shoot,just a rifle will do its job bar a mech. or ammo failure and the human

If I had to buy a magnum??
 

If I were to buy a magnum for Deer it would be a 7mm Rem mag. The main reason is that for a magnum the recoil is light for a magnum and it is the most popular of all magnums. If I was buying this magnum for Elk it would be in 338 Win mag. The 338 is far superior to 7mm on an animal with the size of an Elk. I think the 7mm Rem mag is in the top 10 of cartridges sold and availability for buying factory ammo is great. Same for finding them onsale at a discount. For the reloader other than the belted case reloading should be easy, with no shortage of great bullets available in 7mm to choose from. This also goes for your choice of rifles, all the manufactures chamber the 7mm Rem mag in their rifles.
