Fusion bullets from Federal

I was wondering the other day if anyone has used the new Fusion bullets by Federal on Deer yet? I sent them an email asking if they are going to start offering the bullets to those of us that reload. I hate the current prices of the 30 cal 165gr Nosler Balistic tips at ~18-19 dollars per 50. If they were 10-12 dollars per 100 I would be very happy. I can live without the plastic tip.

I haven't used them before, but it would be nice if they offered the bullets separate. They'd probably be closer to $23-$28 per 100 (for 30 cal) would be my guess.

A low cost alternative

I think that they would have to be cheaper than 28 per 100. I think the last price I saw for Remington Core-locks was around 14 per 100. I was hopeing for similar pricing for a better bullet. It might be to much to ask for. I had used Remington factory ammo before I started reloading and always liked it. Once I started loading the other bullet choices looked superior even if they did cost more. The only place where I have saved money on bullets is my hardcast lead ones for my pistols in 357 mag and 45acp.

Darn now even Remingtons went up in price

You are probibly right on your estimate. I just checked and the Remington core-locks 30 cal 165gr are 26 dollars/100. The Federal Fusions I am sure would be priced similar at best.

i shoot the 62 grn Fusion in both my ARs for hogs. Also shoot them in my 25-06. Trying them in my new .308 this weekend. I like them. Open nicely and retain alot of their weight. ( have only recovered 2, from hogs i have shot)

Build you own! Can never go wrong that way, I produce all my ammo for each of my guns even if their the same cal.

I think the Fusion ammo is some of the best shooting, reasonably priced ammo out there. I tried it first in my then new Ruger .338 Fed and it gave sub MOA from the git-go. I saw no reason to switch after that and took a big Ky buck with it that first season with excellent performance from the bullet/load. I've also got one of my M70/'06 sighted in with a 180gr load and it shoots it very well. I think it's a great bullet.

I did get a can-ed reply to my suggestion

The customer service department at Federal said they would pass on my request for component bullets in the Fusion line for us reloaders. I had sent an email before and that time I was told they were not offering components for reloading. I hope that if enough people ask they will decide it is worth the trouble to offer the Fusion bullets. I really would like a bunch of 165gr .308 cal Fusions.
