Well..it's currently the 2010 Wisconsin gun season, and as usual it has been REALLY slow. Opening weekend I saw 6 deer, 1 shooter buck. Last night I finally saw another deer, it was a doe. She saw me pull the gun out of the window of the tower stand and hopped into the woods where I couldn't get a shot. This morning was another cold one..about 10 degrees. After about 8:30 I was too cold and I hadn't seen anything so I decided I would take a hike. I decided I would walk up a power line that runs along the edge of our woods. I didn't expect to see anything as everything was real crunchy and noisy. When I got to the top of the first hill i noticed a bunch of fresh deer activity. I looked at it and got my rifle ready just in case. I walked a little further and saw a big buck just laying there soaking up the morning sun! I was only 10 yards away and he didn't have a care in world. I looked at him for a second and noticed he only had 1 antler, and his right eye was gouged out...so I figured I would put him out of his misery...the coyotes would get him eventually for sure I thought. I brought up my rifle and put a bullet right in his neck..quick and painless death. The mechanic that I took my fourwheeler to, to have a winch put on said he had seen a 1 horned buck around. He only lives a cornfield and a row of trees away from where I hunt. This must be the buck he was telling me about as he is a very large buck. His left side has 4 points, and his G2 is 11". I figured when he had both antlers he was approx. 18" wide. When I got home I weighed him at 178lbs...probably about 200lbs live weight, give or take a few pounds...gotta love those big Wisconsin deer!
