Default 308 ammo

Bought some Hornady superformance ammo. Muzzle velocity is 3000 fps, not bad for 150 gr sst factory ammo. Hope the Win 88 groups well???

Default The listed speed compared to real speed..

If you have access to a chronograph if would be interesting to see what they are traveling through your rifle. You probibly have the standard 22 inch on your Win 88. I bet they had a 24 inch on when they did the testing. Still a 308 firing a 150gr at over 2950fps is still very serious...

That superformance ammo is supposed to have some special powder that boosts the velocity without raising the pressure any. Pretty cool stuff...haven't tried any yet though.

Default Danger of trying to match it

I also read about it and it is supposely the real deal. I only hope that reloaders don't start blowing rifles up trying to match the new unheard of velocities. I have never been one to try to push rifle cartridges trying to get max vel. I like staying down toward the starting loads and enjoying the long case life and very consistant accuracy. I like the old saying that if you need a magnum, buy a magnum. Don't try to make your standard cartridge perform like one. For those that do shoot factory ammo it is an interesting idea. All that velocity and it is safe to shoot. Please post after you try it out, I am interested if it accurate in your rifle.

I heard that Hornady will be releasing this superformance powder to reloaders next year.

I will post results, I have the federal 150 gr to get on paper and then will run the supers. I just got the 1961 Win 88, as a lever action I should only hope for really good accuracy and not great, but we'll see. Never had a 308 and now will see how I like them. I remember back when they said the Rem 760 pump wasn't accurate, I have one that says they're wrong. So maybe the 88 will be a pleasant surprise too.

Default I always wanted a Win 88 carbine

I looked for a couple years to find a mint condition Win 88 carbine in 308 at gun shows. One of the collectors that I know finally called me saying that he had one for me but of course the timing then was bad. I still wish I would have picked it up. I remember that spare mags were a problem for the Model 100 and 88 and they were expensive if you could find them. Good luck shooting yours. I seem to remember that the triggers on the ones I handled were not as clean a break as I like. I guess that's why I love single shots and bolt actions.
