If I dont see any good bucks for several hours after walking around / still hunting several places then a doe will be good enough (especially for meat). Hopefully there won't be too many hunters in the area.

yeah, I know what you mean man. It's pouring here now, I'm hoping this rain pushes through tonight and it's dry tomorrow. We're supposed to get some high winds tomorrow too... i may be on my feet most of the day stalking...

For any gun season, safety is #1 so hunter orange is probably required by your state. I would pick a nice spot overlooking deer trails, swamps, saddle between two hills/mountains, anywhere I can could get a good look at probable deer movement areas and sit down. Unless your clothes are a non-UV deer will see you, period, especially if you are moving. Let others push deer into you or let the deer follow their natural movements and set for an ambush point. I would wear whatever you have for the weather you will encounter and have the orange jacket as your outerwear. good luck and have fun.

I too use most of the scent free products, soap, detergent and spray. As suggested before maybe make some DIY scent killer spray. Also, I would spring for a bottle of Scent Killer detergent small bottle is like 12 bucks. Here is why first the is nothing in it to make the clothes smell good, second deer see you when you use something such as tide because of the uv brightners in the product. There eyesight see's more of the light spectrum than humans and you sort of look like a glow stick to them. I also have a bar of scent free soap and wash my whole body with it including my hair before heading out. You can use baking soda to brush your teeth and if you do not have the funds use no deodorant. People only smell when the perspiration starts to grow bacteria on the skin and this could be a few hours depending on how active you are. Good Luck!

Actually my clothes are washed in a scent-free natural powder detergent called Charlies soap and I doubt it has any UV brighteners in it and like I said it has no fragrance at all. So that shouldn't be a problem...as for human scent I'll hang all layers of clothes outside and spray them the day before the trip.
And as for scouting, we went yesterday through a part of the WMA and found one area that looks decent and we'll be hiking out there before sunrise to find a place to settle down.

camo doesnt mean your invisable. i only hunt with military cargo. the only thing is is that deer see outlines of hunters not wearing proper atier. you dont have to spend 500 dollars on the new line of mossy oak. if you dont have camo tops use flanal. dark or a red color...always got luck with that too

Yes HM hunter orange is required in the state he is hunting. Has to be an orange hat and vest. Its always important to wear those but even more so when your doing a walking/stalking style hunt. Good luck Catman.

Thanks, yeah blaze orange is required and I would definitely want it hunting on a WMA. Even though I'm going Tuesday with a chance of rain so there will probably be no other hunters around.

I don't wear camo, just light brown carhartt bib overalls and a jacket the same color, it blends perfectly with dry field grasses and if not for the blaze orange, I would be invisible. scent management is the real key, especially if it is really windy

Catman. You dont need camo to hunt deer just wear colors that are in the area.Best thing to do is sit in some weeds, brush, or next to a tree and sit still. Hope you enjoy your first experience deer hunting its fun and a good adrenaline rush. Homemade scent eliminators are very effective as i sometimes make my own,but ive had success not using any either.Have a fun and safe hunt and hope u find it enjoyable as we need more people in the brotherhood.
