For deer this is my gun. It is not fancy or expensive but it gets the job done. I have fired it nine times at deer and have put nine deer on the ground.

NEF Handi Rifle .30-06

(Luke 11:21 KJV) When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

(Luke 22:36 KJV) Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

A big part of hunting is being comfortable with your equipment. While I don't hunt with my Rem 760 anymore it was my first rifle purchase, killed a lot of PA bucks and is still one of my favorites. Accuracy doesn't come from being pretty!

If hunting rifles were all about being practical.....

I can only speak for myself, but I have had alot of fun trying to find the perfect Deer rifle. I have owned several Deer rifles and sold them because they didn't end up delivering any improvement over what I had been using. I still own the Ruger No 1 in 30-06 that I started with. That rifle could last multiple hunters through their lifetimes. My youngest Son hunted with it for a couple of years, and I may be using it this year as my Deer rifle in November. Thank God I don't have to be practical when it comes to my firearms.
