I'll second what Cville above stated . . . Wichita Falls sure ain't east Texas.
The area up there is pretty much wide open. Do you have a lease or is it 'owned' property? Can you scout out where you're going to be hunting? Bring a good pair of binoculars and walk the area where you plan to hunt as soon as possible as rifle season is soon approaching. Find the deer trails and stake them out, possibly dropping off a deer block just to see how much activity you have in that area. I dropped on out on my place in central Texas and 1/3 of the block was gone after 48 hours -- good activity in my book.
For Texas white tail, anything .243 and up is good with anything over a .30-06 pretty much overkill. A good .270 using 130 grain bullets would do well around that part of the state, but then again, it would do well just about anywhere else as well. I recommend Remington Core-Lokt due to their proven track record with me, but again that's just a personal recommendation.
