The .30-30 is a great hunting rifle but wasn't designed to be a long range shooting weapon, the affective range of the .30-30 is approx. 200 yards,
surely you can't expect 1" grouping at 100 yards using a weapon that only only has a 200 yard affective range.
by popularity the .30-30 became the best close, range brush rifle on the market second to none.
It isn't fair to the game animal If someone tries using the .30-30 for more than it's capable of handling.
The .30-30 has probably seen more success than any other rifle on the market for harvesting whitetail deer
but I'd bet statistics would prove that the greater majority were killed at 100 yards or less.
