I chrony my reload workups and here is the rule of thumb I use. Keep your cup/core bullet (BT,SST,SGK) below 2850 FPS and the bullet should hold together and not fragment. Some people use 3000 FPS as a cutoff. My point here is pushing these bullets too fast and the results are less than satisfactory when smashing into bone. Over 2850 I start using a bonded bullet. I mainly shoot 25-06, .270 and 7mm-08 and depending on the loads you are using you could cross this FPS threshhold. These are highly accurate bullets if the velocity is controlled.

This makes sense, and sounds like a good approach to me.

Thanks onehorse. That means alot from a person with your vast experience. Some of my most accurate reloads are compressed loads using light bullets providing velocities in the 3300-3400 FPS. These are my paper punching loads. I owe the animal a one shot kill out of respect so I tend to favor the Accubond bullet..gets the job done IMO. The bullet market has improved tenfold over the last few years as Ronn touched on. Is there really a bad bullet out there? It may shoot lousy in your gun and great in the guy next to you. There are specific bullet construction for specific applications in which the velocities and shot placement determine the results. I don't state anything here you don't already know. I personally aim about 1-2" behind the shoulder low opting for a double lunger to avoid bone contact. A scapula shot on deer takes them down too but that's where the bullet construction vs velocity rules come into play.

Rozman, that Accbond looks like a fine bullet. I've punch a lot of paper with it and believe it will perform wonderfully on game. You and Ronn are "right-on" with the quality of bullets these days. It really would be hard to find a bad one. The trick is gettng, not the right one, but the best one for your gun and type of hunting. As for what I call the" high lung" shot. It's about 1/3 of the way down from the back line and right behind the shoulder. Even with well constructed bullets, I try not to hit bone to avoid damaging meat. Of course, if I were hunting something that might bite back, I'd want to break that shoulder for sure.
