100% agree karl.luhr. but the 338 win is the rifle i wanted to hunt with and its only and issue at the bench. heck it only weighs 8.5 pounds so percieved recoil is exspected. shooting a 235gr, i think it is, vital-shok.

the 22 shooting is a real good suggestion. as part of the job i'm on, they want the red squirrels gone. so the 22 is always ready to go. i'm at the point of, "this one will be a neck shot" or literally "right between the eyes" granted its only 25, 30 yards but its still a small target. getting pretty good at calling the shot with the 10-22. getting real hard to find any of the little red devils. i must be up to near 40 dead at this place.

Ronn sounds like rdc sancuary. I bet I shot over 3000 rounds with Hunter (son) this summer between his mark II pistol and the colt scout . He gets bored shooting the ruger 77-22. He wants a new ruger sr22 rifle w/ the 50 round drum.

Biggest buck I ever killed 6x6 big bodied muley in New Mexico was with a 270 win bolt action rifle. But if I recall I used to use 125 grain bullets. Like somebody else mentioned the 270 win shoots best with a lighter bullet then a 150 grain. You might want to try it. Also the type of scope you are using has a lot to do with the accuracy of a rifle.
