Default Managed recoil rounds

I have not used the 270 managed recoil rounds but used a lot of the .308 managed recoil rounds for my children when they were 12 or so, especially my daughter. The .308 kicked like a .223 and was very manageable.

Took a few mule deer and a couple of whitetails at ranges up to 150 yards. I could not tell any difference in killing power from the full power loads or my 30/06 with 165 grain. When hit right they went right down as quickly as with any other load.

I am fully sold on using the managed recoil loads for lighter shooters and would not hesitate to use them on an elk at up to 150 yards. They let the shooter shoot a lot more without pain or flinch.

My .243 that I first started hunting with kicked a lot more than these loads and did not seem to be as good a killer.

Default Reloading to kick the kick

I don't know what the price is of the new reduced recoil loads, but I bet that if you were to talk to shooters at the range where you shoot someone probibly reloads the cartridge that you are shooting. Many of the online manuals list reduced recoil loads to take the kick out. I would not be worried about anyone that doesn't brag about how they can get super magnum performance from standard cartridges. These people exist and are scarry.

Read an article in this year's hunting guide for the local newspaper. (Okay, the guide came out in mid/late Oct before season started, but I'm just now getting around to reading it!) They ran an article on the Remington Model 7 in .260 caliber. According to the article, it has the same knock down power of the .270, but with about 18% less kick.

(Just how do you measure recoil in percentages anyway?!?!?!)

Just thougt that I'd pass that along if y'all hadn't made any final determinations or purchased anything yet.

How do they measure recoil in percentages? I assume first they would find much recoil a gun has. I'm not sure but I think they measure it in ft lbs. And then they do all the math...

.223 is a deadly round...........neck or head shot will drop 'em in their tracks.....I let my son start shooting a 410 when he was about 8 and it scared him.....i got him comfortable with 22 and then moved him to 243 with ear muffs and he tears it up.........the only way I can use it now is when he does hunt.cdg"??"

I would say that it will be okay for him to use. even without the managed recoil rounds. the bar is not going to kick as hard in my opinion. I have a 7mm mag in a remington 700 cdl and one in a browning bar. the bar has half the recoil...... just like a shotgun autoloader uses gas to cycle the spent case, so does the bar. my pump 12 gauge kicks significantly more than the auto loader and my 700 cdl kicks more than my bar. anytime you can use the gas to cycle the rifle it will reduce the recoil. My 12 year old hunts with a 7mm.08 and my dads .270 and he says if I shoot it right.....I only have to squeeze the trigger once and I can take anything once
