awesome choice with the .300, that was my choice(read this a little late). but for what its worth Jim Shockey says the .338 is the best all around cartridge, adding that he thinks there is no such thing as overkill. but anyway awesome deal on it. good luck

he, jim shockey, said the 338 rem ultra mag. i have both a 338 win mag and the 338 RUM and they are both big ole guns but the ultra mag is twice the win mag.

Default Make mine a 30-06

You made a great choice but I would have selected a 30-06.
1. Doesn't kick as much compared to the magnums you listed.
2. Cheaper to buy factory ammo for.
3. Cheaper to reload for- less powder, cases last longer
4. Not a noisy from the bench, it does make a difference.
5. Barrels last longer, but I don't know anyone who has worn one out
6. Again I repeat, a 30-06 doesn't kick like a magnum!!

Let us know what scope you pick....

you dont need the 7mm for deer hunting unless you plan to hunt out west or have long range shots and with that said I own one. I dont hunt out west but it is a very flat shooter and accurate right out of the box,it only took 3-4 rounds to sight it in. You may not want to coyote hunt with it but its good for anything from deer to bear to moose.

i have shot all of them except the 338 win mag. I was happy with the 300 win mag. It has some recoil but it will blow a hole in something.

Weatherby Sporter chambered in .257 mag. 117gr barnes bullet because its fast, flat, accurate and will ground check anything that you hit.........provided you put the bullet where it's supposed to be. And there is no second choice for me I can harvest anything on the North American continent with it cleanly and humanley
