rem 700 sps varmint .308

i have posted on here before in the bow section because i only use bow when hunting, but i am interested in getting the remington 700 sps varmint .308 for target shooting and to get a feel for long range shooting. i have looked at as many forums as i could find about this weapon and they all say it's a good rifle to start with and to upgrade. the main thing is the butt stock (cheap). i would like some opinions.

Don't quote me on this but I think it also has to do with the barrel length and quality. I'm sure some of the guys here can give much more detail.

your question has me a little confused.
Are you asking for advice on a general Varmint rifle?
or are you wanting information on target shooting (sniper shots) with a .308?

OR do you want advice on Rifles that compare to the Rem. 700 sps .308?

and YES the stock on the Rem. 700 sps varmint is a cheap ugly skeleton fiberglass.. Remington could have chosen a much better Stock..

the sps is a fair hunting rifle but if you are looking for a long range rifle there are better platforms to choose form. Rem makes a good one its a 700 but I can't remember what its called. I have one in 22.250. Savage makes one called the long range something or other, with the accutrigger that's a good choice. Shepherd scopes.com shows a guy shooting a deer at over a thousand yards using the savage in .308. sps is more of a utility type rifle. I would suggest that you research very carefully before you buy. just my opinion

l own one of the new rifle in 308 cal. this rifle is out off the box very good i take it to the club it was marvelous to shoot the design of the stock look not to expense ,but when you star shooting then you notice the result . i was taking a 200 meters shots almost bull eyes impresing other shooter with savage accutriger my shoots was very smooths and when they star shoting was very off target to me this unique rifle is very way on superior then savage rifle with the accutriger system the rem sps new trigger is prove to be a superior Quality and hand crafting then the savage. how ever this rifle cut be as a hunter or target rifle that how good this bad toy is in the future i will buy choate stock hang grip then will be put it to test after all this is a Remington Rifle the name said all.
