Default Anybody use a Howa M-1500 Rifle?

Been thinking about (for other reasons) a new rifle in .223 bolt action or single shot. Looked at the H&R Handi Rifle, looked at the Rossi Matched Pairs in .223 and 20-gauge. But have really become interested in the Howa M-1500 which I have found out is the same as a Weatherby Vanhuard.

Anybody have any experience with this rifle?

Default Howa or Vanguard rifle

I have not shot either one but, I have handled both. They are said to be a quality rifle. I know that the Vanguards usually have 24 inch barrels. That makes them a little long for the standard calibers in my opinion.

Hmmmm, Howa catalog lists the .223 in both blued and stainless as a 22" #2 contour. That seems ideal to me.

Mag.RH 24"7 1/2 lbs.44 1/2"3+124" #2I rechecked the Weatherby site and the vanguard standard models except the carbine do have 24 inch barrels. I think that 24 inches is little long in timber. The Weatherby Mark V ultra light comes with a long 24 inch also, but it is so beautifully balanced I would live with the long barrel in the woods.

Now THERE is an eye-chart response! Thanks for the info. I was able to heft a Howa 1500 at Sportman's Warehouse in Los Anchorage last night and liked it a lot. Don'tcha hate when things burn on you?!?
