It's almost Deer hunting time here in MN....
I hope everyone has a chance to get out and test your luck against the wonderful Whitetails this year. I had to sit out last year due to my Son having a torn ACL. This year he is with his brother at college in Iowa, and I hope to get out with a buddy from the Fire Dept. Now which rifle should I carry? I have a month to decide, one thing is for certain it will be in 30-06. All of my Deer rifles are in 30-06, if they weren't I am sure I would end up in the woods eventually with the wrong ammo.
My first crack with a firearm will be on the early two day muzzleloader season in Kentucky. We have seen some very nice bucks on the trail cam and I hope to see one of the larger ones that weekend. Next up with my Granddaughter on youth weekend in late Oct in Tennessee where she will be shooting her new Ruger American Compact in .243.
Kentucky rifle opens on 9 Nov, the same day as Tn M/L season opens. I'll be hunting in Kentucky, unless I already scored during the early M/L season. Tennessee rifle opens the 23rd of November and closes the 5th of January. I look forward to a lot of hunting this year! :pickle:
Best of luck to all!
In two days I should get a look at whats available on my buddy's farm. The deer come out into the fields in the evening. My first crack at them comes Oct. 19. with the flintlock.Since I'm an official old codger I can use a centerfire for three days the next week.I like venison and since this is a doe hunt its great.
Well,I missed with the Flintlock.I was caught by surprise while walking back to the truck. She lifted her head out of the brush and spotted me.I rushed the shot and missed. She ran down a wide dirt road for a long distance and left no blood. When centerfire season opened,I watched a field and took a 150 lb doe with my old model 70 in .243.
The rifle I bought in 30-06 is by far the best rifle I have ever used. The problem I had with his rifle is the price. But if something ever happens to it I Will not hunt unil I can buy another. The Benelli R1...
My Buddy also has a Benelli R1
My Buddy also has one in 30-06. He has the synth confortec stock. The only complaints on his rifle are-
1. I think his trigger is 5 to 6 lbs. That is hard for me to get used to.
2. The magazine extends from the trigger guard forward and would get in the way of carrying the rifle with your hand infront of the trigger guard.
The rifle did shoot really nice if you can live with the trigger pull.
My benelli's trigger brakes st exactly 5lbs but 3.2/5 lbs is take up. The only problem I have had is when I bought it I only glanced at the instructions before shooting. Big mistake! You MUST completely brake the weapon down before shooting and use the supplied oil and clean. The only misses beyond 2" at 50 yards are self inflicted. To each his own.
Sighted my daughters .308 Ruger American in yesterday. I have to say I will be purchasing another for myself & my .270 Ruger M77 may become a gun safe Queen took 2 shots with the American @ 100 yards both holes touching in the 9 ring little high. thought that was very good but made a small adjustment sent two more both rounds touching in bullseye whisker right. This gun is a dream to shoot & only has a cheap tasco 3x9x40 scope on it
