New Zeiss riflescopes
I was at Gander Mt today and was able to look at the new entry level Zeiss riflescopes. They replaced the Conquest with the new Terra line.
Gander was pricing both the Conquest 3x9x40 and the Terra 3x9x42 at 399.xx each. They both have the plastic turret caps that should be metal. The magnification rotation adjustment is opposite on them. The Zeiss conquests were backward from all other scopes I use. These new Zeiss terras are what I would call adjusted the normal way to rotate up on power. The conquests were built in the US to Zeiss specs, and the new Terras are built in Japan. I hate to say it but I think I prefer the new Terra models.
Karl, I own three of the Zeiss conquests of the "older" make. I think they are neater than peanut butter and the BEST scope for the $$, if it's not an illuminated reticle scope. Of course, only this old man's opinion....:whistling:
I should add, however, that the zoom for power being what would typically be opposite does drive me crazy to. I've not seen the new Terra in person yet, but I do like that they are making one in 2-7x32 which I believe is likely the best all-around scope for most of my deer & hog hunting and would make a better choice for most all hunters, IMHO. I simply like the added FOV at the bottom power; 46.5 feet for the new 2-7 Terra VS 34 feet for the 3-9 Conquest at 100 yards.
Great to hear a good initial report on the new Terra line. Thanks!
I'll have to take a look. Always in the market for good glass deals.
