I and my Sons are hunting with 30-06s loaded with 165gr bullets. What are the other Members usually using on Deer. Please list cartridge and weight selected.
Browning A-bolt-270win. 130g winchester ballistic silver tips Winchester 30-30- 150g hornaday leverevolutions Ruger Super Redhawk .480- Hornaday 325g XTJHP also used for hogs and bear
A 30/06 shooting 165s is about as good as it gets for deer most anywhere. I killed a nice Kentucky buck last year with a Marlin 336ER in .356 Win. Year before I used my M/L, a .50 cal CVA shooting a 295gr Powerbelt over 100gr 777, a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62 shooting 285gr PP load and a Marlin 1895M (.450) shooting a 350gr JFN Hornady load to take two 8 points and a 7 point. In 2010 I used the same M/L & load, a .44 mag carbine and a Marlin 336 in .375 Win to take a 7 point, 8 point and an 11 point.
I guess it's been a while since I've used one of my '06s, but the '06, like many others, will sure get the job done. :boxing:
I use Federals through my Rugers (what they recommended )
have started using the Federal Fusions this year & I am really liking them may want to try a box looks like they do a .243 in 95 grain or the federal Vital shock in 100 grain personally I never had good luck with Remington ammo but it could be my Rugers don't do well with it either
