Can I compare rifles here?

Hello,

I've been wanting a deer rifle for a while now, but my budget just stays small. I found this:
Marlin XL-7 Bolt Action Rifle XL7270, 270 Winchester, 22", Black Synthetic Stock, Blue Finish, 4 Rds

......for under $400.00

With the spread between high and low prices for rifles that use the same load, can I expect this cheap rifle to shoot accurately like the ones that cost $1,000 more? Is this rifle any good? I will scope it.

I bought a brand new 30-06 in 2003 and still have the same scope and nothing has changed. It shoots magnificently and has very good accuracy. The price was 390 dollars or something like that. I can't afford the top dollar guns and make due with what I have. Just take care of it and practice shooting to gain accuracy and any rifle shall be good. Welcome to the club buddy.

My primary go to deer rifle is a mossburg 270 that I bought like 8 years ago n give $270.oo for it brand new, put a $100.oo bushnell scope on it and has been a great bolt action rifle that I'd put against any rifle.
Don't get cought up in quality is only in cost, it's not always true. But I look at it as if I got 400 to spend, I'd want a 150 on a rifle and 250 in the scope I put on it.

I shoot a marlin XL7 270 and its well worth the money!!! I got the synthetic camo stock I think for under $400 brand new about 3 years ago. You might check around on that price...... But its the best rifle for the money in my opinion!!! I shoot remington cor-loc ammo, very accurate in my gun

I don't think Accuracy stems from high prices alone, I've been known to use some very inexpensive rifles and shoot as good if not better than some of the highest end models.
I think accuracy is in the shooter's patience, determination & commitment to spend time practicing with different ammunitions to learn what shoots best in the rifle he's using.

A buddy of mine needed to buy a couple of rifles as gifts, and I suggested the Marlin XL7s in 30-06. I took both out the range and set up the zero on both. They are alot of quality for the money. A blued version should cost around 300.xx, with the camo stocked version costing a little more. The Stainless version was I think 100.xx more than the blued. I really don't think there is a better buy available for the price. The Marlin has what a rifle needs, a good barrel, a solid action, and a clean trigger. You give up a dropping floorplate but if I had to give up something that is not a big deal. For one he bought a Redfield Revolution 2x7 scope that I suggested. It worked out great. His Sister picked up the other for her Son and the gunshop talked her into the Nikon Prostaff 3x9. Either of these scopes will be a good choice at under 200.xx. I know that cost is an issue but don't try to get by with a cheap scope.

For the same money $500-575 I could find a really clean used Remington model 700 scoped. A Rem mountain rifle is a great rifle for the money. The used market has some great rifles at a decent savings over buying new just like a car.

I agree with karl on the marlin x 7,and Dep is right to on the ruger american. I think both of these rifles have hurt savage.Great guns for the money.
