Good Deal???
 

I went looking for a rifle, one my grown daughter could shoot, looking for something in .243 caliber.

Found a Remington Model 700 ADL in .243 at the local Wally World. It has a black synthetic stock, a Rem 3-9x40 variable scope, and the only thing I had to purchase was the swivels and sling. Cost - $418 + tax.

Was that a good deal? Talked to a local gun shop who said to take it - - -

Oh, BTW, zeroed on a range in the back yard. Took 9 rounds to march the point of impact from in the dirt to the center of the target. Changed targets and put three rounds touching and pulled a fourth an inch to the left using Winchester 100 grain soft points.

Sounds good to me.I'm a big fan of .243's for deer.Low recoil equals more practice and they put 'em down.I'm taking a Win. model 70 and a Ruger M77 in .243 to the range today.Our Buck season opens Monday after thanksgiving.I was picked in a lottery for a flintlock hunt for deer on a waterfowl management area.I've carried it for two seasons,have yet to take a deer with it.In the .243's I like the remington core-lokts

Taking it out this afternoon to see if it does what it's supposed to -- put meat in the freezer.

The Rem 700 ADL and SPS are fine rifles
 

The scope that they bundle in with the rifle is garbage but the rifle is a good one. The Rem 710 and 770 models are not something you want to pay money for. Any of the Rem 700 versions are worth the price of admition. I would try to replace the scope next year with either a Redfield or a Nikon. The rifle will last a lifetime it deserves a quality scope on it.

I have a couple 243s but my favorite is my old remington 760 gamemaster pump 243. I love it. I put the new redfield revenge 3x9x40 on it last year and I dropped my 300lb mulie dead in his tracks with it. I also just bought that 700adl in 308 and changed to scope and i love the gun. alot of bang for the buck!

That's a superb price for a Remington 700. Yea, stay away from the cheapo-lineup of 710's, etc. Glad you grabbed that one!
