Great round but for the deer in your area I might suggest a Remington 140grain Core-Lokt. I don't think you need the heavier bullets in .284, and the Speer is more of a match bullet than a hunting bullet IIRC. Gotta love the Core-Lokt's in this application. My $0.02.

I would not be real excited to get 2800fps out of my 30-06 shooting 165gr loads but you are really getting alot out of a 7mm-08. I always thought of the 7mm-08 as a 2700fps shooting a 140gr load.
