Default Auction over

The auction company extended the auction for several more hours last night (from 4 PM EDT to about 4 AM). This turned out to be a good thing for us, as the bidded price went from $15,000 to $20,000. in that time.

Some big ticket items were a jersey worn by Lou Gehrig @ $280,000., a Joe Jackson card @ $170,000., an Honus Wagner card @ $160,000., and a Gehrig bat @ $150,000.

There were 1700 items in the auction and our baseball turned out to be the 2nd highest bidded signature ball (behind a single signature Jimmie Foxx). I'd say there was somewhere around 100 signature baseballs in the auction including several N.Y. Yankee World Series Champions from the '30s thru the '70s that included as many as 8 or nine HOF player signatures. Ours was the highest bidded multi-signature ball in the auction.

Yes, we're happy!...lol

Thanks. We're pretty happy with the results. I'll have to keep my eyes open and see if it goes up for resale again in the near future. This was the first time ever it's been offered for sale, having been in the family for over 100 years.

That's awesome turner! I'm always envious of those people on TV who just have stuff in their house laying around that have no clue it's worth like $5,000. That just blows my mind.... not saying this was true of you, but you see what I mean.

Congrats!

The first time I ever saw and held the ball I knew it would be worth a good bit of $$. One relative actually tried to simply walk out the door with it...

One can only wonder what the value might have been had no other signatures been added after the original was in 1909 or thereabouts. More than likely, close to $200,000. or so....

Perhaps the coolest thing for me is that I actually held a baseball that had been also held by Christy Mathewson and Babe Ruth, the only baseball ever they both actually touched & signed....
